Unlike the previous two years, WWDC 2022 will include an in-person event at Apple Park on June 6. While much smaller in size than what Apple was offering prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, this marks the first time Apple has welcomed developers back to Apple Park for any kind of in-person event.

Eligible developers and students can apply from today through May 11 at 9:00 a.m. PT. Invitations are “assigned through a random selection process” and are not transferable, Apple says. All applicants will be notified of their status no later than May 12 at 6:00 PM PT.

This is Apple’s first in-person event since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. While this event is drastically smaller than previous WWDC events, the company is still taking some COVID-19 precautions. This includes proof of a negative COVID-19 test no more than three days before the event.
As it stands, Apple says masks are currently optional and no proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required. This policy may change once June 6 is finalized, and Apple says it will “provide details on the latest attendee requirements prior to the event.”
Even though this is a scaled-down version of the WWDC in-person event compared to previous years, it’s worth noting that Apple is inviting people back to Apple Park for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. It sets the stage for more personal events
There’s still a lot we don’t know about this “Special Event,” including details of exactly where it will be held at Apple. This will most likely depend on how many developers and students Apple invites, but options include the Apple Park Visitor Center, the Steve Jobs Theater, and the center ring on Apple’s rainbow stage.
It could also be that the entire event takes place in the aforementioned Developer Center, which we also know very little about.
